Diwali is the festival of light and togetherness. It is a celebration of the victory of good over evil and an exciting time for kids and adults. Lights, new clothes, sweets, and crackers make the festival memorable and worth celebrating and enjoying. But with the negligence and carelessness of parents and children, the excitement turns into worry.

Thus, while the celebration is on for the festival, parents need to be attentive and cautious to prevent unwanted accidents.

Safety not only tells about being careful about diyas and crackers. It includes many other factors, including the safety of children from burns, the comfort of your elders, keeping the street litter-free, and the environment less polluted.

We all know that Diwali is the festival of lights where we lit diyas and candles in our homes. However, if not taken proper care of, diyas can lead to a fire. What can you do to ensure safety?

  • Keep the candles and diyas away from the curtains and other flammable objects.
  • Put diyas and candles on a flat surface so that they do not fall.
  • Do not put diyas in the pathways where people keep coming and going out.

Despite the ban, fire-crackers are still widely available and have become a big part of the Diwali celebration. Firecrackers are generally used in families with children and teenagers. To ensure safety and less environmental pollution,

  • Do not burst crackers with loud noise and smoke.
  • Buy crackers from a licensed shop and of trusted brands to ensure their best quality.
  • Children should not be allowed to burst crackers without adult supervision.
  • Burst crackers ONLY at open space and one cracker at a time.
  • If you are allergic to smoke, do not go outdoors.
  • Keep babies and pets away from smoke and loud noise as it may make them uncomfortable.
  • Limit the use of crackers as much as possible to ensure less air pollution.

Diwali celebration is all about wearing new clothes. Dressing up comfortably is very important for you and your family.

  • Avoid wearing synthetic clothes, as they can catch fire easily.
  • Cotton clothes are safe and comfortable as they are not flowy.
  • Kids should wear comfortable, light clothes and also tie their hair to avoid any mishap.

No Diwali is complete without the lip-smacking delicacies and sweets prepared for the celebration of the festival. Sweets and snacks purchased from the shops are usually not of high quality due to high demand. But buying sweets from reputed shops can ensure the quality of products. Avoid eating street food and prefer homemade food as they are safe and healthy.
